Environmental Education

Meets Island Adventure

September 30 - October 3, 2022

This fall MAEOE takes the fall conference on the road, and on the boat, to Lake Michigan’s largest island. The history, scenery, flora and fauna on Beaver Island create a unique destination conference. The most significant change from past conferences, due to ferry schedules, is a Friday – Monday schedule. The full conference is three nights and eight meals! Helpful information on schedule, transportation, lodging and fees are on other pages. Here are some dates and deadlines to keep in mind.

If you have questions, please contact the Conference Committee at conference.maeoe@gmail.com.

At this year's conference, field trips/workshops are on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Any fees are in addition to the lodging package. Space is extremely limited on Field Trips.

Please review the Field Trips and Workshops Options BEFORE registering.

TRANSPORTATION

The 2022 conference schedule is being built around the main transportation schedule to and from Beaver Island.

Ferry Ride : The Emerald Isle is a two-hour boat trip in good weather. The 2022 ferry ticket price is $27.50 one-way for an adult passenger. A typical vehicle is $100 one-way but is not needed unless you wish to bring a vehicle to the island. CMU will provide shuttle vans to and from the boat dock and all
field trips.

Plane : You can also fly to the island in 15-20 minutes on one of two airlines. Both airlines rates are about $55-$60 one-way to Beaver Island ($110-$120 round trip). CMU shuttles will pick you and deliver you to the airfield. This is an incredibly beautiful flight, less than double the price and one/eighth the travel time.

Remember: You are responsible for your transportation to and from the conference. CMU will provide shuttle vans to and from boat docks and all field trips.

For full Transportation Information, check out the Transportation Guide.

SILENT AUCTION

Use the letter at different businesses to solicit silent auction items for the conference.

Please use the Silent Auction Items Form to submit your silent auction items.  You MUST receive a confirmation email before bringing any items to the conference. Items without a confirmation email will not be accepted.

Michigan's premier Environmental and Outdoor Education conference will be held September 30 - October 3, 2022 on Beaver Island at the Institute for Great Lakes Research at Central Michigan University's Biological Station. Beaver Island is providing some challenges, and one of these is transporting items to the island.  Because of this, we are going to try something new.  Instead of having our usual silent auction, we are going to simplify it.  We are seeking new “small, easy to transport” items and gift certificates from businesses.

For this to work, we need MAEOE members to go out and seek donations for items that can be donated for our auction.  We need you to talk to people, stores, corporations, etc. and see if you can get people to donate to our auction.  We would love all of the items to have a value of $25.00 or more.

So, we are looking to the membership to go talk to some of the merchants we love and see if they will donate.  Even if it’s a small amount, maybe you can pair it with others.  For example, some one from Grand Rapids could hit multiple microbreweries for 5 $20.00 gift certificates and call it a “Taste of Grand Rapids”.

EXHIBITORS & SPONSORS

Each MAEOE conference offers participants an area where they can network with organizations, universities, agencies and others who exhibit materials and programs. The exhibit fee is $50. A typical exhibit includes a 10 foot booth space with an eight foot table. Once your form is submitted, you will be contacted regarding method of payment.

Join the many sponsors that support the work of the MAEOE network. Review the sponsorship levels and benefits below. You will be contacted about your preferred method of payment once the form is received and reviewed. If you have any questions please email us at conference.maeoe@gmail.com
